About Marianne Leeson
A dynamic snowboarder for over 15 years - Marianne Leeson takes on the quest to represent Canada at the 2014 Olympic Games
Marianne Leeson began skiing in her backyard in Burlington Ontario at
the age of 2. She advanced quickly to become a competitive racer by the
age of 7 as a member of the Milton Heights Racing Club. She soon fell in
love with snowboarding and she began racing at the age of 12. Marianne
has progressed through the ranks consistently achieving podium finishes
and eventually winning the Provincial Championship in 2005. She was
crowned Canadian Junior Champion for PGS and placed 2nd in PSL in 2006.
In 2007 she placed 2nd in both events. Marianne also competed at the
Canadian Championships that same year finishing 9th in PGS and 8th in
PSL at the senior level while still only 19 years of age. Marianne has
competed for Canada around the World and has shown that she is ready to
take on the best. In 2007 Marianne had the honour of winning the first
ever Gold medal presented for this sport at the Canada Winter Games in
the Yukon. Her competitive spirit and desire to be the best has earned
her a spot on the Canadian National Development Team where she is
currently ranked 5th in Canada and 45th in the World.
Marianne currently lives and trains full time in Calgary as a member of the Calgary snowboard club and this year has secured herself a spot on the Canadian National snowboard team and will be representing Canada on the world cup circuit. Fueled by her passion to be the best, Marianne continues to direct her training and development towards achieving her dream to compete for Canada at the next Olympic Games. Her goal is to medal at the 2014 Olympic Games in Russia and ultimately has aspirations for a gold medal finish for Canada.
